Jon Needs a Sick Day
Hey all,
Sorry for this, but I’m in a (hopefully) minor medical emergency at the moment, and since “the moment” is 4:42 AM, I doubt I’m getting today’s post done on time. I’ll tell you all about it when I get back. .
10 AM Update: I have been given a clean-ish bill of health. A battery of tests revealed no visible reason for my recent distress, so they had to conclude some sort of strange confluence of events or some kind of non-emergency issue taking place in my chest, but not involving my heart, lungs, or blood. How very informative of them.
For those interested: Just before bed, I had a sudden sharp and hot ‘popping’ feeling around my sternum/ left pectoral. The ‘heat’ of the sensation spread over my chest and down my arm, leaving a sense of “cold” inside my left hand, behind the middle two knuckles. Fearing a cardiac event, I checked my pulse, which remained relatively even, and popped upstairs. There, I spoke with my mother, as the residual discomfort of the event abated. I called a medical professional, who, noting some other strange symptoms (slight pain at the peak of inhalation, and a sense of ‘fluttering’ in the diaphragm on some exhalations, particularly yawns.) stated that their advice was that I see a doctor…within the hour. Thus, I had to go to the emergency room, as there are remarkably few doctors who start work at 5 in the morning.
There, they took an EKG, a chest X-Ray, and several blood tests, none of which showed any indications of immediate issues, and as most of my symptoms had completely dissipated by the time i reached the hospital, they discharged me.
Since this started just before I went to bed, I have only slept about 2-3 hours in the last 24, with 2 of them at the hospital, so I’m going to take a quick mid-day nap, and try to get a post up tomorrow. Thank you for your understanding.
